About The NYS Accessibility Validation Initiative
The NYS Office of the State Chief Information Officer and Office for Technology (CIO/OFT) issued an enterprise policy that contains mandatory standards with the goal of improving accessibility of state agency web sites and application for persons with disabilities. The policy can be found at: http://www.oft.state.ny.us/Policy/.
In an effort to continue the CIO/OFT's ongoing commitment to improving access to government information and services, the State selected HiSoftware to provide solutions allowing for automated assistance in the area of Web Accessibility Compliance.
The CIO/OFT's initiative includes unlimited State access to an online validation tool (Learn more about the Online Validation Tool at http://nysf.hisoftware.com). The Desktop Validation Tool differs from the Online Validation tool in a number of ways, to view a list of the differences between the two tools visit http://nysf.hisoftware.com/about/compare.htm.
It is important to note that automated testing provides a base to test web content against standards, however some of the standard checkpoints call for visual or manual inspection.
